Baby Massage is a wonderful skill that can be shared between baby and their caregiver to promote bonding and attachment through loving nurturing touch and communication.
It is a parenting tradition used in many cultures, including Indian and African, and has been practiced in the UK since the late 1990s.
I trained with the IAIM (International Association of Infant Massage) which is a global organisation and the world-class standard for training and teaching of baby massage.
I have delivered many courses within Children’s Centres, local community venues, one-to-one within families own homes, and to NCT groups.
I have also provided information regarding the benefits of massage whilst demonstrating the massage strokes to Staff in Day Nurseries, as well as students in colleges.
My Baby Massage courses are friendly, informal sessions held over 5 weeks in local venues. Each class has a maximum of 8 parents/carers and babies at any one time, as I feel that small groups are more beneficial than large ones. This gives families the opportunity to join in conversation topics and ask questions/share experiences more openly in a positive, safe and non-judgemental environment.
All efforts are made to create a warm, low-lit comfortable setting. Each week I demonstrate new massage strokes on a different part of the body using my doll – baby Cerys – whilst listening to Ami Tomoke – a Bengali lullaby. The benefits of each of the strokes are explained as they are demonstrated, short easy to learn rhymes are also incorporated to make the session as interactive as possible. Once massage has been completed we have a discussion on topics such as communicating with your baby; crying & spoiling; changes in life since birth; and an informal chat at the end.
Please do not worry if your baby is due a sleep as I have spare dolls to practice strokes on. The classes are baby led so if your little one needs a feed or nappy change do not hesitate, the strokes are repeated each week, so you won’t miss anything!!!
One-to-one courses within the home environment are also offered and if a group of friends can make up their own group within their own homes I will come to them too! (Please note there is a separate price for private sessions). Price upon request.
Each family will be given their own bottle of massage oil alongside handouts and a booklet at the beginning of the course. A certificate of attendance will be presented at the end.
Baby mats are provided for the babies to lie on, which are cleaned before and after every use! All I ask for you to bring is a towel to put under baby, to keep them warm and to mop up accidents!
During the sessions I diffuse doTERRA Certified pure essential oils creating a calm and tranquil environment, these oils are safe to use with babies and pregnant ladies.
